Rev. Jewell Callender is the Senior Pastor of The People’s Cathedral. She prides herself on being a teacher, an encourager, a missionary, and an intercessor.
Testimony
At my birth, the Holy Spirit spoke through a godly woman using her to inform my parents that I would be used by God to bring the gospel to many people. I knew nothing of this until I was already working in the ministry as a missionary in Haiti. At my conversion, the Holy Spirit placed the vision on my heart which was stated earlier. I am determined to be used by God, to fulfill that vision.
Biography
Jewell Callender had humble beginnings in the rural parish of St. George before relocating to Christ Church. She attended the Christ Church Girls School, subsequently transitioning to the Princess Margaret Secondary School. Upon graduating from Princess Margaret, she felt it necessary to enter the workforce. Therefore, she joined the staff of an off-shore data processing company, where she remained for ten years has risen to the rank of Account Coordinator.
At the age of twenty-five (25), Jewell made a commitment of her life to the Lord and served in the Christian Education, Worship Arts and Youth ministries of her assembly. She has also served on the PAWI Youth Committee as the Missions Director. In 1999 she commenced a missionary tour of duty, answering the Macedonian call to the nation of Haiti where she served for two life-changing years, primarily working with orphaned and abandoned children in a children’s village in Port-au-Prince.
On her return to Barbados, Jewell enrolled in the West Indies School of Theology – Barbados Campus and successfully completed the Diploma in Bible and Theology in 2004. Immediately after, she was appointed as an associate pastor of The People’s Cathedral. In 2010 she was accorded further responsibility as the Deputy Senior Pastor, subsequently being appointed as the Senior Pastor of that assembly on October 1st, 2017.
Rev. Callender is a life-long learner, who completed a Bachelor in Theology with Faith Theological Seminary and Christian College and recently completed a Bachelor of Arts in History and Gender studies with the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus where she obtained first-class honors. She also holds a certificate in Guidance and Counseling from the UWI School of Continuing Studies, as well as an Advanced Leadership certificate in Evangelism from the Haggai Institute, she is also a Certified Anger Management Specialist.
Pastor Callender, who is an ordained minister of the gospel, is a committed Christian, Counselor, and teacher. Additionally, she has served as a lecturer, administrator, and Principal of the West Indies School of Theology, Barbados Campus. She currently sits on the Executive Committee of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the West Indies – Barbados, becoming the first woman to be voted in as a “Member at Large”.
Mrs. Callender has been married to Shawn Callender since 2006 and has many spiritual children.
